How No More Poverty Will Engage Millenials in Philanthropy

Dr. Michael Omidi here to tell you about how I, Michael Omidi, and my brother Julian Omidi have set up a not-for-profit organization known as No More Poverty. The No More Poverty ( organization we have founded has many goals, including helping other charities in their unique efforts to end poverty, and also developing business opportunities for the impoverished around the world.

I have always been interested in philanthropy ever since I was a younger man, but I noticed in my youth that many organizations did not take my interest or efforts seriously and underestimated people of my age group and our desire to donate time, money, and support.

The 2012 Millenial Impact Report – a report which studies men and women aged 20 to 35 and their behaviors, attitudes, and habits relating to non-profit organizations – shows that in many ways younger adults, despite their interest, are in some cases not taken seriously by non-profit groups.

The facts show that the Millenial generation is very active in charitable giving. Of the 6,522 individuals who completed surveys for this report, 3 out of 4 young adults donated to a charity or cause in 2011. Not only did they donate but they also spread the word about that charity through social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook.

The Millenial generation wants to connect in a different way than other generations and the study showed that:

  • Only about 17% sought to learn more about charities through print media.
  •  65% used the agency’s website.
  •  55% used social media like Facebook and Twitter.
  • Smartphones were also heavily used.

In response to these findings, No More Poverty has set up a Facebook page where you can interact with the charity and be updated on events, campaigns, find new charities and more. We also have a featured Charity of the Week, and during the time that that charity is featured, every person who likes our Facebook page will result in a dollar being donated from us to that organization.

We hope that you will get involved with our organization and interact with us.
